The Beginning

Here I am, laying in my bed in my freshman dorm. Watching Grey's Anatomy and eating gummy bears for dinner. Today I made a decision, okay maybe not a decision but I definitely had an idea. You see, right now I'm an undeclared major because I don't believe in making 17 and 18 year olds decide what they want to be for the rest of our lives, our brains aren't even done developing. But I think I'm ready to declare a major and a minor, I think it's time. I'm probably going to wait until after this year to declare, but I know what I want to do. At the end of the school year, I will be declaring a Journalism major and a Visual Arts minor with a concentration in photography. I want to be a photojournalist. I want to travel the world. I want to show people who can't travel the world what it looks like. I recently viewed a video about how photography has ruined art because it's given us the chance to see it as something it's not instead of experiencing it in its original form, and don't get me wrong, I don't think a photograph can do the world justice. I don't see a photo and feel what it must be like to see the Taj Mahal, the Pyramids, or the Great Wall of China, but I'd rather see a photo of the wonders of the world than never see them at all. I'd rather see what's happening far away than read about it. So I'm going to travel around the world observing and writing, taking photos and recordings, with the goal of helping someone less fortunate than me to experience what I'm experiencing. This, is the beginning. The beginning of the life I want, of the newest chapter of my life.
